Custom Vinyl Cut Letters and Logo Details
When deciding on your graphic lettering and/or logos for you awnings there are a few things to consider and understand. All lettering and logos are done in single solid colors and maximum letter height is approximately 26 inches. To avoid lettering that is difficult to read from a distance it is recommended that no smaller than 3 inch tall font be used. Also avoid using very thin type font and logo elements to ensure a readable product. File formats from clients should be outlined vector .eps or .ai files that have been converted to paths (outlined). Accent Awnings can convert your logos to vector format at an additional charge.
What is a Vector format and why we need them?
When you’re working digitally, there are two kinds of image file types: raster and vector. Both image types may be saved with several different file extensions. It’s important to understand when to use each image type and the best file extension for particular situations. Vector files are images that are built by mathematical formulas that establish points on a grid. Raster files are composed of the colored blocks commonly referred to as pixels. Because they can infinitely adjust in size without losing resolution, vector files are more versatile for certain types of tasks than raster files. The most common types of vector files are:
.ai: Short for Adobe Illustrator, this file is commonly used in print media and digital graphics, such as logos.
.eps: Encapsulated PostScript is an older type of vector graphics file. .eps files don’t support transparency in the way more modern file formats like .ai do.
.svg: The Scalable Vector Graphics format is based in XML (a markup language used widely across the Internet that’s readable by both machines and humans). It’s useful for the web, where it can be indexed, searched, and scripted.
“Since vectors are based around mathematical formulas, a vector image can scale at high resolution to virtually unlimited sizes. This is also the file type needed for the vinyl cutting machine used at Accent Awnings to produce the logos and graphics that are applied to the awning fabrics.”

Converting your logo or text to outline vector format.
You must create your logo in a program that supports an outline feature. (.ai or Adobe Illustrator is the most popular program for this) Create your logo or text using the font style of your choice If you created the graphic in illustrator will already be in outline format.

Select the font and go to Type > Create Outlines from the menu. The text will become outlined and can’t be edited as text, they are no longer text but a vector outline, graphic image.

At this point the logo or graphic is what is required for the cutting machine to cut along the outside path and cut your design out of vinyl.

The cutting machine software then creates a path that the cutting blade uses to cut out the letters and graphic shapes that make up your text, logos and graphics

What if I don't have a vector outline or can't create one?
If you do not have the ability to make or have a vector outline image made, Accent Awnings can recreate your logo or graphics and convert it to the correct format. Knowing your font style name is the best way of accurately reproducing your logo or text. You will be shown a proof before any final work will be done to verify the type and text meets your requirements.

Logo, text and graphics issues to be aware of:
Fonts and logos with very thin and small elements should be avoided or made to be thicker.
Multi colored logos can be produced as long as the colors have separation between each color.
